Santol or Wild Mangosteen
Do you know this kind of fruit? This is one of the tropical fruit that grown in Southeast Asia best know as “Santol” in my home land Philippines. As I was searching for the English term, I found out that it is called “wild mangosteen”- some santol are sour and some are sweet. But, I preferred mine to be a bit sour as I liked it more when I dipped in salt.
Mostly, this fruit has a white juicy pulp with approximate 4-5 seeds in it. Some people make marmalade using this fruit which I had tried before. Taste was not bad. I missed our own santol tree back home. Too bad, the typhoon killed it and now it’s gone!
The Health Benefits of Eating Fresh Guava
image not mine…
Guava is one of my favorite fruit to eat growing up in Philippines. There are many kinds of guava, some are big and some are small. And some are sweet and some are a bit sour. To understand what guava is all about, I found this from Wikipedia: Guavas are plants in the Myrtle family genus Psidium, which contains about 100 species of tropical shrubs and small trees. They are native to Mexico, Central America, and northern South America.
I really did not knew the 10 benefits of eating fresh guava. I was glad that it was one of my favorite fruit back then and even now. The only problem this time, it is hard to find this kind of fruit. I saw some at the Asian store when I was there last week. But, the price was very high and their guavas were not fresh anymore. So, I did not buy any. Back home, grandma and my family had our own guava trees in our yard.
Anyway, back to the benefits, guavas are a treasure- trove of nutrients and considered as “super foods” due to its being high in antioxidants.
Guavas benefits are the following:
1.) Lowers Cancer Risk 2.) Lowers Risk of Diabetes 3.) Promotes Good Eyesight 4.) Helps Promote Fertility 5.) Helps Regulate Blood Pressure Level 6.) Promotes Healthy Thyroid Gland 7.) Helps the Body Make Use of Key Nutrients 8.) Relaxes Nerves and Muscles 9.) Keeps Brain Healthy 10.) Helps Maintain Healthy Skin
Better Cook for the Good Life!
This post brought to you by Allstate. All opinions are 100% mine.
I would admit that growing up, I remembered my mom would do all the household chores such as laundry, cleaning the house, cooking and more. Not to forget, she is such a good cook; and does not need to follow any recipes to cook something tasty and yummy. Me and my siblings were spoiled, because mom does everything for us. I did not realized that it would be us (the kids), who would suffered the consequences. I got married and the saddest part, was that I don't know how to cooked. I have had to called her on the phone, international call, just to talked and asked her how to cook the food.
Embarrassing, was not it? In my situation, it was difficult because my husband is American and was born and raised to eat American food while I was born and raised in different country. Therefore, I have to cooked two or more different foods. It was very complicated at first. It was very challenging because I don't liked to cooked. Honestly, I had no passion in cooking at first, I only liked to eat and try new food. My husband was complaining because for him, "me" as a wife, should know how to cook according to him which he was right! It was a turning point. I started buying cookbooks, getting on the computer for new recipes and even cutting out recipes from magazines.
And because of that, I now, love cooking, and I am getting good in baking, too. My husband actually gained more pounds because of me cooking too much. If not because of what had happened in the past. I think, I will not become a better wife and a better cook. I think, I will not learned how to love cooking. I am glad and I am thankful of my past.
I agree, 100% with Allstate Good Life that the notion of the Goof Life is inherently social; it is already taking place in people's natural social conversations. And now, Allstate has permission to join in because they are an insurance company who creates more good vs. take care of the bad.
