Eitopf with pork ribs

Today we are going to talk about the real jewelry of German cuisine, called Eintopf.This is an amazing aromatic thick soup, which can be served both as the first and second course at the same time.As a rule, it is prepared from beef, chicken and vegetables, vegetables and smoked products.

It is believed that this rich, appetizing soup is of peasant origin. Eintopf was created by German housewives in order to enjoy and to treat tastily their hardworking husbands and children.

The name Eintopf translates as “one pot”. Why? And because in this dish, almost all the products that the hostess has cooked in one container.

The Eintopf ingredients can be beans, peas, lentils, vegetables (potatoes, cabbage, rutabaga, carrots) and, of course and meat (smoked meat, pork, chicken). You can also take pasta and croutons.Eintopf is cooked even with fish or sausages. Local people adore it with mushrooms and greens.

What products to take

  • Pork ribs – 0,5 kg
  • Onions – 1 pic.
  • Carrots – 2 pic
  • Vegetable oil – 1 tbsp.
  • Potatoes – 3-4 pic
  • Green peas – 200 g
  • Beans – 100 g
  • Salt – 0.5-0.75 teaspoons
  • Spicy herbs – to taste

How to prepare this dish

Step 1

Heat the proper amount of vegetable oil in a frying pan. Pork ribs (meat) have to be fried on high heat from all sides. The total frying time is for about 10 minutes.

Step 2

Peel onion, wash and cut it into large half rings.

Step 3

Put the ribs along with the fat into the cauldron, add the onion, stir and fry for another 5 minutes.

Step 4

Clean and wash one carrot. Grate it carefully on a large grater.

Step 5

Add the carrots, pour the meat and vegetables with water, close the cover and cook at low boiling for 40 minutes.

Step 6

The second carrot has to be cut into circles.
Potatoes are peeled and chopped.

Step 7

Put the carrot into the soup. Cook for 10 minutes. Then put the potatoes and cook for another 15 minutes.

Step 8

And at the end put green peas and asparagus beans into the soup. Sprinkle with herbs. Cook the Eintopf for another 5 minutes.

Step 9

Soup is ready. Enjoy!
